How to Plant and Grow Plants in Grow a Plant
Plant seeds from seed packs in your base, water them with the watering can so they finish faster, and get past max plants and spacing limits in Grow a Plant.
Growing a plant in Grow a Plant is one simple loop: open a seed pack, take out a seed, place it down in your base, and water it with your watering can until its timer runs out. Watering makes the plant grow faster, and a finished plant earns money while it sits in your base — visitors may even stop by to buy your plants.

How to plant a seed and grow it
- Get seeds from a seed pack. Every plant starts as a seed out of a seed pack — your starter packs or new ones you buy. If you're running low, see how to get seeds.
- Place the seed down in your base. Take a seed from the pack and put it down somewhere on your base. One pack can become several separate plants: pull the seeds out one after another and place each where you want it.
- Water the planted seed. Use your watering can on it. Watering speeds up the plant's countdown, and when only a few seconds are left, one pour can finish it on the spot — a plant with 7 seconds left in one session completed the moment it was watered.
- Wait out the timer. Every seed shows its grow time the moment you place it, and times vary by seed — in one session a rare seed showed 5 minutes while an epic crop needed 15 minutes.
The full loop in motion — pack, place, water, wait, harvest: the recording below follows it from a first seed to a finished, money-earning plant.
When is a plant finished?
A growing plant runs on a visible countdown and can show "not ready yet" before it's done. Once the timer runs out, the plant is fully grown — you may see it say it "grew to the max." Finished plants passively earn money while they stay placed (a grown plant paid 129 per second in one observed session), so leave them out to collect until you need the space or want to take a buyer's offer.
If your seed won't place
- "Too close" — seeds placed right next to each other can fail to fit. Leave a gap between plants and try the spot again.
- "Max plants" — your base holds a limited number of plants. Free up room by picking up or selling plants you already have, or buy the base-size upgrade to raise the cap.
Grow faster with watering upgrades
The upgrade tree includes a watering can speed upgrade that improves your manual watering. Better still, base upgrades can unlock drones that pour water on your plants automatically, with no input from you — and they work alongside your own watering, so plants keep speeding along even while you're busy buying the next round of packs.
Before you spend cash on packs, check the Grow a Plant codes page for free seed packs and money. Then it's just place, water, wait.
