Grow a Plant Rare Plants: How to Recognize and Get Rare Seeds

Rare plants and seeds in Grow a Plant show a rarity label. Learn the tiers and how to get rare seeds from higher-tier seed packs and NPC offers.

Spotting a rare plant or seed in Grow a Plant is not a guessing game: the game prints the rarity tier right on screen. Open a seed pack and the result is announced by tier — one moonlight pack opening came up with "A rare seed" — and seed-shop stock is flagged the same way, so you know what you're buying before you spend. Actually getting one mostly comes down to buying the highest-tier seed pack in stock when the shop restocks, opening it, and planting what you get.

How to recognize a rare seed or plant

Every seed carries a rarity label, and you'll see it in two places: on the result of a pack opening and on items in the seed shop, where listings are called out by tier. The label follows the seed into the ground, too — a rare seed that gets planted grows into a crop that still counts as rare.

The tiers seen in play run common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary, mythic and exclusive. Rare sits above uncommon, and experienced players treat it as the working minimum: once you're hunting rares, anything uncommon or below is filler to clear out for space. So no — an uncommon seed is one step below what you're looking for.

The recording below shows those tier labels where they matter most: pack openings announcing their result, and the seed shop flagging what's on sale.

How to get a rare seed

The most concrete route is the seed shop's higher-tier seed packs:

  1. Check the shop's restock timer. The seed shop isn't always stocked. Better seeds only appear when it refreshes, so keep an eye on the timer and come back for a restock.
  2. Buy the highest-tier pack in stock. A moonlight seed pack — the best one a player had bought to that point — produced a rare seed on its first opening. Later tiers like the crystal seed pack and bloom seed pack were the best stock available, at higher prices.
  3. Plant it and keep it watered. A rare seed goes down like any other seed, but it needs watering (or a watering upgrade or drone) to finish its grow timer. In one run, a freshly opened rare seed was ready in about 5 minutes with watering and upgrades active.

Pack outcomes are random, so treat a rare seed as a chance result, not a guarantee — a pack can just as easily come out all commons. Buying the best pack available each restock is the steady way to stack those chances.

Rare plants from NPC offers

Seed packs aren't the only source. NPC visitors and traders occasionally hand over plants, and sometimes it's a rare one: after a visitor liked a legendary tree, he gave the player a rare plant — while taking the tree with him. Offers like this are irregular, but they can be very good, and accepting can also land you extras such as mystery seed packs. Just look carefully at what you're trading away; some traders swap your plant rather than adding to it.
